New Home

Well, I finally received some pictures of my new home in the villages. It's amazing how fast they built this - less than 30 days. I'm very anxious to settle in to a nice home and absolutely fabulous community of activity. The journey continues!!!!!!!

Feb. 26

Thank you Lord! Chris and Sarah are pregnant! Such good news - the baby is due
Nov. 4. That's pretty close to when Christopher arrived on Thanksgiving Day 34 years ago!

Still didn't get any pictures of the home in The Villages. Soon, I hope.

Found out yesterday that Aunt Phyllis, Uncle Bob and Alusha will be visiting Shari , Luke and me on Memorial Day weekend. By then I will have gone through most of my belongings and prepared for the "moving" garage sale the next weekend.

The Hammons are coming to Florida in April - we should be able to spend a night or two at my new home.

Traveling to Ft. Meyers March 10 to see some friends from St. Paul - Culps and Churchs. Marti, my friend in Ft. Meyers will join me for dinner with my other friends. Fun.

Closing on the home March 26.

Heading to Cleveland April 12 (Easter) to see the Cavs play the Celtics - huge game - thais , if you like pro baasketball. Prior to that spend a day with my daughter in Atlanta. After Cleveland I'm going to NY to see my step mom and celebrate my nephew's induction into the Eagle Scouts. (April 18). Shortly after all that I go back to Michigan and Ohio to see Tim, Cathy, Shari and Luke and as said, go through "tons" of belongings. It looks like I will be bringing very little to Florida. This will be a big project and take me about a month to complete.

I should be back in Florida around June 10. I' ll then stay there until I go back to Michigan on August 1 for Cathy Hubmeier's brothers wedding. On July 3 Joy and family may visit me and then spend a week at the timeshare in New Smyrna Beach. The timeshare is only about 2 hours from new new home!

Aunt Phyllis and family visit in Cocoa Beach some time in August. I hope they get a chance to visit me. I will probably spend a day or two with them in CB.

I WANT visitors. If you ever want to see me and experience an awesome community just let me know. Even if I'm not there you could stay at my house. I really mean that. I'm only 55 miles from DisneyWorld. You will not believe what awaits you. It's one of those things that's hard to describe - you have to be there and experience it.

Feb. 24

Today is a big day! Sarah and Chris find out if they are pregnant! Should know about noon time. It's in the Lord's hands.

I should be receiving my first pictures of my new home - due to be completed March 26 - today.

Aunt Phyllis is trying to arrange a trip to Columbus, Ohio - Memorial Day weekend - unable to reach Shari as her phone numbers were accidently deleted from my new phone. Uncle Bob and Alusha would be there as well.

Updates on all of the above should be sent by this evening.

Feb. 4 - The end of another journey in sight!

I was just thinking about life and how it is a series of journeys. I completed the journey of 40 years working for the Lutheran Church! I completed my journey of 36 years with a tremendous, loving wife! I completed the journey of raising 4 super children - even though I still worry about them as adults!!

Now I am completing the journey of almost 4 years without Linda. A new journey has begun as I prepare to move to The Villages in June. Not sure how long that journey will last but I am thankful for all what has been given to me by a very loving God. Sometimes we dwell on what we don't have and we need to spend time on reflecting on what we have had.

Even as the journey of life comes to an end we have the promise of eternal life. How dare we complain and not be thankful.

Where Has the Time Gone!

In an effort to catch up I've posted a lot of pictures from the last two months. Once I receive other pictures from my family I'll post more. I have no excuses - I just got out of the habit of updating the blog. December was busy visiting Tim and Cathy and having a fabulous "night on the town" thanks to Dad Conger - Great dinner at the Whitney in Detroit and then on to see "Wicked". I posted just 1 picture. I also visited Shari and Luke - no pictures - sorry! I always have a lot of fun with them - right, Luke and Shari? I also visited with my best friends, Bill and Robbi and John and Elaine - super meals and the best friendship a man could ask for. Spent Christmas with Tim and Cathy - they put on "quite a spread" on Christmas Day! Then on to Atlanta where the entire family invaded Joy and Jim's house - several pictures posted of a day in the park and only one with kids opening presents. Thanks for having us, Joy and Jim! Happy Birthday(42) Jim!

January was quite something - full of things I didn't expect:

1. I was reunited with my sister, Gail. I had not seen her in 4 years! Long story but so thankful!
2. I suffered multiple physical set backs - all at the same time - but I'm back and doing well!
3. I bought a house in The Villages - it's being built - ready March 26. Several pictures of the model home are posted. The Villages is a gated senior(55+) community 0f 70,000 - it has 34 golf courses, 125 pools, 60 restaurants, 9 Country Clubs, dozens of recreation centers, Polo field, 150 softball teams - suffice to say, I will be enjoying myself. Even in this down economy, they are building selling 300 homes per month.I will be joining a bowling league, a pickle ball team and yes, learning to golf(it's free - I have to learn now). I will also be part of the singles' groups. It has everything - you never have to leave. When I have more time I'll give a better description of this awesome place. You really have to experience it to understand. I'm only 50 miles from DisneyWorld and all that stuff. You are all invited to visit me - I have a guest bedroom and den! I want company - you'll just love it. I guarantee a super time!!!!!!!
4. Chris and Sarah are trying IVF again - your prayers are needed.

Mom Schaaf - Grandma - has been terrific - she"s with me every step of the way - in fact, she's one step ahead of me most of the time! Not bad for 87! I'm living with her - she still drives and is on 2 bowling teams. She's also my personal interior decorator.

I asked the Lord to direct and show me what to do with the rest of my life - He answered.

Wonderful Night in Detroit
